Our Mission

Advancing sustainable solutions through science, innovation, and education

Founded in 2024, EcoTips began as a student-led initiative focused on reducing plastic waste in scientific laboratories. What started as a research-driven project has since evolved into a broader sustainability movement, one that provides practical eco “tips” and resources to empower our entire community.

The Issue at Hand

Scientific Research Impact: On average, one scientist alone uses 300-400 g of plastic daily and 70-100 kg of plastic annually.

Lack of Awareness: There is minimal initiative toward considering the long-term environmental effects of single-use plastics among individuals working in scientific laboratories at ISU.

2024

Lab Campaign

EcoTips began by tackling plastic waste in scientific laboratories, raising awareness about sustainable research practices and exploring solutions for a greener future in science.

2025

EcoVision

We expanded outreach across Iowa, bringing together organizations, educators, and citizens to promote sustainability and action toward a greener future.

2026

EcoKids Summer Camp

We will inspire young minds through hands-on experiences in science, sustainability, and environmental action. Stay tuned for sign-up information!

President's Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) Winner - 2026

EcoTips was selected as 1 of 10 across the nation for this award. Recognized nationally for our efforts to inspire sustainable practices through science, education, and youth-led environmental action.
